Terms of Use

Plain terms for using free, open-source software.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using PingRoute, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

2. Open Source License

PingRoute is free and open-source software distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 (LGPL-2.1). Your rights to copy, modify, and redistribute PingRoute are governed by that license, which takes precedence over this page in the event of any conflict.

3. Appropriate Use

PingRoute sends ICMP ping and traceroute requests to hosts you specify. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to probe any target you enter, and for complying with the acceptable-use policies of your network, ISP, and any target network. Do not use PingRoute to conduct denial-of-service activity or otherwise disrupt systems you do not own or have permission to test.

4. No Warranty

PingRoute is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, as set out in the LGPL-2.1 license. Network telemetry (latency, packet loss, hop data) is informational and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for critical infrastructure decisions.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors of PingRoute are not liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the application, including any consequences of network probing performed through it.

6. Third-Party Distribution

Where PingRoute is distributed through a third-party platform such as the Microsoft Store, your use is also subject to that platform's terms and policies.

7. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of PingRoute after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

8. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to pingroute@harmanita.com or raised as an issue on the GitHub repository.
